Angola scored a late touchdown and two-point conversion to spoil Homecoming at Prairie Heights last Friday night with a 20-19 victory over the Panthers.
A.J. Hocker dashed into the end zone from nine yards out with 1:43 left in the fourth quarter to draw the visiting Hornets to within a point, 19-18. Instead of kicking the tying PAT, Angola went for the lead and got it on a two-point conversion pass from Trevor Lynch to Reese Oberlin.
Prairie Heights’ final possession ended on a fourth-down incompletion.
Angola took a 12-0 lead into the halftime break on a pair of Hocker scoring runs, the first covering three yards and the second six. Prairie Heights responded with 19 straight points in the third quarter. Kyler West tossed scoring strikes to Zach Shepard (34 yards) and Corey Johnson (30 yards), while Joey Barry sprinted 66 yards for a touchdown.
The loss dropped the Panthers to 2-4 in the NECC and to 2-5 overall. They travel to West Noble this Friday with the kickoff set for 7 p.m.
