At least Westview doesn’t have to face Skylar Parker anymore.
Less than two weeks after shutting out the Warriors, 1-0 in the NECC tournament championship game, the hard-throwing Angola pitcher did it again Tuesday night on the same diamond in Emma. Parker gave up just three hits, struckout nine and walked three in leading the Hornets to a 3-0 triumph.
Jake Berkey, Tarrin Beachy and Kohle Christner registered the Westview hits off Parker. Beachy came closest to scoring, as he reached third base with one out in the fifth. However, Parker retired the next two Warriors on strikes to squelch the threat.
Meanwhile, Beachy was nearly as dominant as Parker, holding Angola to two hits and no runs through six innings.
But in the seventh, the Hornet bats finally got rolling. A one-out single by Jake Roddy was followed by an RBI triple by Nick Chad. After a walk to Craig Nofziger, Jake Johnson plated Chad with a sacrifice fly. Darius Hillman capped the three-run rally by doubling home Nofziger.
The first two Warriors reached base in the bottom of the seventh, but Parker set down the next three hitters, the last by a strikeout, to end the game.
