Angola shaded Prairie Heights, 13-7 in NECC football play last Friday night in the Monument City.
Jake Roddy’s 31-yard touchdown pass to Nick Spears staked the Hornets to a 7-0 lead late in the first quarter. Angola upped its advantage to 13-0 two minutes before halftime when Troy Zvirblis bulled into the end zone from three yards out. The score was set up by a Panther fumble at their own 12.
Prairie Heights finally dented the scoreboard in the third period when Cassten Everidge capped a short drive with a three-yard touchdown run. Corey Johnson, who had misfired on a couple of field goals in the first half, connected on the PAT to cut the Angola lead to six.
The Panthers threatened again early in the fourth quarter, but a stout, goalline stand by the Hornet defense stopped the drive at the Angola two. An interception by Austin Bauer late in the game snuffed out the last Panther hope.
Quarterback Kyler West completed eight passes for 141 yards to spearhead the Prairie Heights offense. Johnson caught two balls for 62 yards and Levi Tuckerman nabbed one for 36.
The result left Angola and Prairie Heights with identical marks of 3-3 in the NECC and 3-4 overall. The Panthers host West Noble this Friday at Hubert Cline Field.
