Angola boys defeat Lakeland

Despite getting a 25-point effort from senior Spencer Mortola, the Lakeland varsity boys basketball team dropped a 53-44 decision at Angola last Friday night in its regular-season finale.

Mortola canned eight field goals -- including a trio of three-pointers -- and went 6-8 from the foul stripe in spearheading the Lakers.

Craig Nofziger and Justin Davis each swished 17 markers for the Hornets, who led at the three period stops by counts of 14-11, 23-15 and 35-24. Ryan Gaff chipped in 10 points to the winning ledger.

The result allowed Angola (4-6) to pass Lakeland (3-7) in the final NECC standings. The Lakers will take a 6-15 overall record into sectional play this Friday at Wawasee against either the host Warriors or Tippecanoe Valley.
