Alva J. “Junior” Williams, 87, Wolcottville died Wednesday, June 20, 2012, at Parkview Noble Hospital in Kendallville.
He was born February 6, 1925, in Muncie, Ind., to Alva and Irene S. (Miller) Williams.
He served in the U.S. Army from 1943-1946, receiving two purple hearts in May 1945 while serving in the Philippines. He moved from Muncie to this area in 1968. While in Muncie, he worked for Irving Concrete Company. After moving to Wolcottville, he was a self-employed building contractor. He was a member of Rome City American Legion Post 381.
He was married November 1, 1946, in Muncie, Ind., to Jo Ann Swain. She preceded him in death on January 24, 1988.
Surviving are four grandchildren, Cindy and Floyd Szuba, North Liberty, Ind.; Christy and Johnny Saylor, Wolcottville, James Ludlow, Lewiston, Maine, and Sarah Williams, White Pigeon, Mich.; seven great-grandchildren, Corey Saylor, Brandy Saylor, Carly Saylor, Zack Szuba, Conner Szuba, Nik Szuba, and Dana Ludlow; and a sister-in-law, Karen and Bud Joyce, Wolcottville.
He was preceded in death by one son, John Williams, two daughters, Carol Ludlow and Joyce Ann Williams, six brothers, and one sister.
Services were held Saturday, June 23, at Young Family Funeral Home Wolcottville Chapel with Pastor Joey Nelson officiating.
Burial is in Woodland Cemetery, Wolcottville. Honor guard services were provided by Rome City American Legion Post 381, Kendallville VFW Post 2749, and active duty members of the U.S. Army.
