LaGrange County snagged up nearly half of the 20 spots on the 2013 All-NECC volleyball team in a vote of the league’s coaches held earlier this week.
Five of the eight area players who made the elite squad sparked Westview to runner-up finishes in both the NECC regular-season loop and tournament, and to its second straight IHSAA sectional championship. Seniors Breann Bushong and Rachel Johns, along with sophomores Makai Gingerich, Alexis Hostetler and Grace Hales were the Lady Warriors named.
Prairie Heights seniors Tressa Terry, Shawna Carbone and Allison Young earned slots on the first team. The trio led the Lady Panthers to a third-place finish in the final NECC standings.
It is the second straight season in which Bushong, Hales, Carbone and Terry were tabbed for All-NECC honors.
League regular season and tournament champion Fairfield garnered four spots on the All-NECC unit. Seniors Haley Brown, Erin Carlos, Sierra Smith and Leah Wimmer were the Lady Falcons cited.
Completing the first team were Tori Yagodinski (Angola), Kennedy Forker and Haley Duncan (both Central Noble), Alisha Farner (Churubusco), Erin Stock (Eastside), Shae Rhonehouse (Fremont) and Kelsie Peterson and Rachel Schermerhorn (both West Noble).
Six players received honorable mention votes, including Lakeland junior Rebecca Wooster. The others were Claire Grubb (Angola), Lacey Pulley (Churubusco), Sarah Vacala (Fremont) and Zoie Farnsworth and Emma Gaff (both Hamilton).
