All - NECC Football Squad

 

 

Seven members of the Lakeland football squad were named to the 2012 All-NECC first team in a vote of the league’s coaches last Wednesday.

The four Lakers tabbed for the all-conference offensive unit included quarterback William Kelly, running back Cory Troyer, wide receiver T.J. Thompson and lineman Evan Garretson. Named to the defensive list were lineman Kyle Faust, outside linebacker Chris Leary and Logan Owens, who was an at-large selection.

Zach Shepard was the lone Prairie Heights gridder to earn All-NECC honors. Shepard made the defensive team as an outside linebacker.

Conference champion Churubusco placed 10 of its players on the All-NECC team. The Eagles picked included running back Jason Nicodemus, tight end Sam Siddons, offensive linemen Tyler Nevil and Brian Richardson, defensive lineman Eric Kuznar, inside linebacker Braydon Shively, outside linebackers Joe Zumbrun and Teegan Brumbaugh, free safety Cory Miller and cornerback Logan Harris.

Right behind Churubusco with nine all-league picks was Eastside. Representing the Blazers were quarterback Blake Blaker, wide receiver P.J. Dean, tight end Collin Dove, offensive lineman Kyle Stephens, place-kicker Kyle Franz, defensive lineman Chaz Davis, inside linebacker Matt Beard, free safety Ty Lockhart and cornerback Justin Miller.

Fairfield equaled Lakeland with seven all-conference selections. Falcons making the grade were running back Cameron Kitson, wide receiver Caleb Noble, offensive lineman Andrew Hager, defensive lineman Kyle Ostrander, outside linebacker Alex Mast, cornerback Brett Baumgartner and punter Eldon Burtsfield.

Rounding out the All-NECC offense were running back Austin Bauer and lineman Caleb Brown both of Angola, wide receiver Nate Beatty and lineman Brad Owen of Fremont, and at-large choice Alex Vice of Central Noble. Completing the first team defensive unit were lineman Brady Elliot and outside linebacker Ricky Short of Fremont, and lineman Carlos Medina and cornerback Erik Mawhorter of West Noble.

Thirty players received honorable mention votes, including four from Prairie Heights and five from Lakeland. Bobby Blum, Cody James, Mike Gaetz and Dylan Stayner were the Panthers mentioned. Joe Ferguson, Morgan Moore, Joey Fuller, Devin Dimos and Jordan Aldrich formed the Laker group.

Other honorable mention picks included Reese Oberlin, Trevor Lynch, Skylar Winters, Spencer Stites, Stefon Whitaker, Jake Johnson, Dylan Belcher, Shane Rasey, Reese Oberlin, Troy Zvirblis and Simon Gardner all of Angola; Chandler McDowell, Logan Peel and Mitch VanZuilen of Fremont; Garrett Scott and Tyler Brock of Fairfield; Jacob Geiger and Brient Hicks of Churubusco; Keith Gibson and Landon Stover of West Noble; and Kadis Renier of Eastside.
