Five players from LaGrange County were named to the 2012-13 All-NECC boys basketball first team in a vote by the league’s coaches earlier this week.
Leading the local quintet were junior Jordyn Bontrager of Westview and Prairie Heights sophomore Jacob Heller, each of whom earned their second all-conference selection. Heller, a 6-3 forward, led the league in total points with 443 and was second in scoring average with a 19.3 clip.
Bontrager tallied 11.3 points a game, helping the Warriors win a fourth straight NECC tourney crown, carve out a perfect, 10-0 regular season conference slate and post a third consecutive 20-victory campaign. The 5-10 guard also led Westview in steals and assists.
Garnering their first All-NECC slots were senior Kyle Miller and sophomore Chandler Aspy both of Westview, and Lakeland senior Spencer Mortola.
Miller topped the Warrior scoring average chart with a 14.4 per game mark. Aspy was right behind with a 13.0 clip.
Mortola paced the Lakers with a 14.9 scoring average.
Rounding out the All-NECC first unit were senior Simon Brown and junior Justin Davis of Angola, seniors Garrett Scott and Brad Lantz of Fairfield, senior Nick Thomas and junior Drew Schermerhorn of West Noble, junior Brett Simmons of Churubusco, junior Casey Rote of Hamilton, senior Alex Vice of Central Noble and senior Jayden Lilly of Eastside.
Six players received honorable mention votes, including Westview senior Nic Raber. The other five were sophomore P.J. Dean of Eastside, junior Phil Miller of West Noble and junior Alex Beams and seniors Austin Corcimiglia and Tyler Jenkins of Fremont.
