Accident on snowy road injures one

Shortly before 5 a.m. on January 20, Sergio Lopez-Cortez, 35, of Ligonier was driving a 2002 Dodge Caravan east on CR 800S when he struck a snowbank west of CR 400W, sending his vehicle out of control. The vehicle crossed the centerline and hit a vehicle driven by Stacy Gavin, 51, of Kendallville. Lopez-Cortez’s vehicle then left the roadway and flipped over.

Gavin was taken to Parkview Noble Hospital for neck and shoulder pain.

According to the police report, the driver told officers he was going 60 mph when the accident occurred. He was cited for speed too fast for conditions, no insurance, and no valid license plates.
