AARP holds Christmas luncheon

AARP LaGrange County Chapter #3829 held its annual Christmas luncheon at Our Place Café in LaGrange on Dec. 2.

Scott Beam, interpretative naturalist for Maple Wood Nature Center, presented a program about “Legends of Christmas.”

Beam showed how different parts of the '”world outside” brought Christmas traditions into our homes today, including the Star of Bethlehem, the Feast of the Yule Log, holly, evergreens, mistletoe, wreaths, rosemary and others. One of Beam's examples was the poinsettia plant: it just happened to be the right color at the right time of the year. He further reminded those attending that we all are part of the world outside, and to make time to spread peace.

LaDonna Roberts provided highlights to the chapter's Christmas party by playing festive Christmas music on her keyboard during the celebration.

All seniors are welcome to attend AARP meetings. The LaGrange chapter meets at 1:30 p.m. on the first Friday of every month (except July) at Mt. Zion Lutheran Church. Anyone who is a member of the national AARP is eligible to join the LaGrange chapter for a small yearly membership fee.
