The LaGrange County 4-H Fair will be recognizing graduating 4-Hers and 10-Year 4-H members on Saturday, July 5, beginning at 5:30 p.m. The Master Achievers will also be announced at that time.
Graduating 4-Hers for 2014 are:
Hope Brewer is the daughter of Thomas and Tasha Brewer of LaGrange. This is her second year in 4-H and she graduated from Lakeland High School. She is in the Horse and Pony Club and shows horses and started calves.
Lita Burton is the daughter of Teresa Burton-Lake of Newbury. She is a 10-year member of the VanBuren Bunch and has participated in several projects including Collections, Arts and Crafts, Recycling, Floriculture, and Photography.
Breann Bushong is the daughter of Phil and Shannon Bushong. She has shown pigs and beef at the fair and her favorite project is beef. One of her 4-H achievements is winning Grand Champion Beef Steer twice. Her future plans are to go to a two-year college and study radiology.
Shelby Butler is the daughter of Todd and Jessica Butler of LaGrange and has graduated from Prairie Heights High School. She has been part of Stroh Straight Shooters Club for seven years. This year she will be participating in Photography and Started Calf.
Saige Dunafin is the daughter of Shawn Dunafin of LaGrange and has graduated from Prairie Heights High School. She is a 10-year member of the Stroh Sunny Spotlighters Club and shows started calves and horses and also participates in Photography.
Savannah Eckert is the daughter of Bradley and Shawn Eckert of St. Joseph, Mich. She has been a member of the Horse and Pony Club for 10 years and will be showing horses this year.
Jackson Evans is the son of Lee and Debra Evans of Wolcottville. He is a 10-year member of the LaGrange County Horse and Pony Club, where he served on the junior committee one year. He represented LaGrange County for two years at the Mid-States Team Tournament, was the Indiana State Fair champion for Junior Horse Speed and Action in 2009 and Junior Horse Keyhole in 2010. He has many memories of the fair including trail rides, camping, being with friends, and the fun horse show each year. He plans to attend Ivy Tech this fall to pursue an Associate’s degree in nursing. Following that, he will attend IPFW to earn a Bachelor of Science degree as a registered nurse. Eventually, he plans to return to LaGrange County.
Colton Feller is the son of Randy and Lisa Feller. In his 10 years of 4-H, he was involved in Shooting Sports, Lamb Club, Swine Club, Started Calf, and Horse and Pony. Out of his years in 4-H, all of Colton’s favorite memories come from being in the Horse and Pony Club. All of his friends were in the club and they could spend time together. His future plans are to attend college for Agricultural Science followed by the military.
Kyle Gage is the son of Phil and Elaine Gage. His favorite projects were showing sheep and rabbits. He says what he enjoys most about 4-H is the fun he has with his friends during fair week. Being in 4-H may have been a factor in him pursuing Animal Science in college.
Brandon L. Gilliland
Brandon Gilliland is the son of Bradley and Michel Gilliland. He has been in 4-H for seven years and has enjoyed being part of LaGrange County Fair. He belongs to the Stroh Straight Shooters and his favorite projects were Sports and showing swine. He especially enjoyed Sports because it’s one of his favorite subjects to talk about. His 4-H achievement is doing the best he can, to the best of his ability, and not giving up what he enjoys doing. Some of his memories include hanging out with friends and family and enjoying fair week. He also enjoyed looking at projects that other people have done.
Jonah Grogg is the son of Gary and Amy Grogg. He showed rabbits for 10 years and poultry for seven years. He took some of his rabbits to the state fair and has also won Best of Show with his Flemish Giants. In the Poultry Club, he showed ducks, pigeons, and chickens, and won Grand Champion for his Fantail Pigeon pair.
Mary Haney is the daughter of Cathy Haney of LaGrange and a graduate of Lakeland High School. This is her first year in LaGrange County 4-H. She is a member of the Dog Club and will be showing dogs and also participating in Arts and Crafts and Creative Writing.
Damon Hershberger is the son of Gerald and Lynn Hershberger and has been in 4-H for 10 years, with seven years in Started Calves, four years in Swine, and 10 years in Goats. His favorite project in 4-H has been Pigs. Some of his accomplishments include winning Grand Champion and Reserve Grand Champion with his Wethers, multiple Grand and Reserve Champions for Does, and senior showmanship winner. His favorite memories from 4-H are hanging out with friends during fair week. His future plans include going to Black Hawk College and majoring in Agriculture Production Technology.
Matthew Howe is the son of Mark and Audrey Howe of LaGrange and a graduate of Prairie Heights High School. He is a 10-year member of the Stroh Straight Shooters Club and is in several projects including Alfalfa, ATV, Beef, Started Calf, Swine, and Lawn and Garden Tractor.
Mathew Jennings is the son of William and Tiffany Jennings of Howe and a graduate of Lakeland High School. He is a 10-year 4-H member and has been in Swine, Started Calf, ATV, Shooting Sports, Farm Tractor, and Junior Leaders. His future plans are to have a steady job and possibly attend technical school.
Tristin Kohlheim is the son of Rod and Amanda Taylor of LaGrange and a graduate of Lakeland High School. This is his first year in 4-H. He is a member of the Horse and Pony Club and will be showing horses.
Elizabeth Kratz is the daughter of Dennis and Laura Kratz of LaGrange and a graduate of Prairie Heights High School. She is a 10-year member of the Springfield Sidewinders and participates in many projects, including Arts and Crafts, Dairy Beef, Foods, Goats, Junior Leadership, Photography, and Shotgun.
Robert “Chanden” Lawson is the son of Mitch and Sharrita Carpenter of Wolcottville. He is a 10-year member of the Dog Club, ATV, Arts and Crafts, Foods, Microwave Cooking, Starter Calf and Shooting Sports. His other projects include Alfalfa, Junior Leadership, Poultry, Rabbit, Recycling, and Tractor. He is active in the Johnson Township Fire Department and will be attending the University of Northwestern Ohio for Diesel Mechanics after returning from basic training with the Indiana National Guard.
Riley Lewis is the son of Brian and Debbie Lewis. He has been a member of the Springfield Sidewinders for 10 years and some of his favorite projects include Dairy, Started Calf, Veterinary Science, and Foods. Over the years, he has won numerous awards in these projects and these helped him earn Tops in 4-H in 2013. He also participated in the first 4-H Indiana Dairy Youth Academy and 4-H Dairy Evaluation at the North American International Livestock Exposition. He will be attending Purdue University in the fall, majoring in Agricultural Economics and minoring in Animal and Crop Sciences. He wants to pursue a career in agriculture and plans to someday take over his family’s dairy farm.
Jaron Lewton is the son of Jason and Melisa Lewton of LaGrange. He attends Westview Jr.-Sr. High School and New Life Fellowship, where he is a member of their youth group. He has been in 4-H for 10 years, showing started calves for two years and goats for eight years. He won Reserve Grand Champion Market Goat in 2012 and 2013 and also won the Senior Showmanship Class in 2012. Jaron’s future plan is to attend Huntington University and study Pre-med, as well as play soccer.
Cole Lorntz is the son of Matthew and Donna Lorntz of Steuben and a graduate of Prairie Heights High School. He has been in 4-H for six years and is a member of the Horse and Pony Club. This year he will be showing horses and swine.
Amanda Miller is the daughter of Orvan and Lori Miller of LaGrange and a graduate of Lakeland High School. She is a 10-year member of the Wolcottville Can Bees and will be participating in Goats and Started Calf.
Josiah Miller is the son of Lowell and Rita Miller of LaGrange and a graduate of Westview High School. He is a member of the Poultry Club and will be showing poultry this year. He has really enjoyed the years he was in 4-H and liked getting to know new people and learning about how to take care of and show the animals.
Shane Miller is the son of John and Angie Miller. He has been a 10-year member of the ATV Club and Goat Club and has also done Started Calf for five years. He has had the most fun at the ATV rides where kids get muddy on purpose. He won Grand Champion in the ATV posters numerous times over the years and was awarded Champion of his division in 2010 and 2012. His plans for the future are to attend IPFW in the fall and major in Theatre.
Derrick Mills is the son of Richard and Sara Mills of Mongo and a graduate of Prairie Heights High School. He is a member of the Lima Lads and Lassies Club and will be participating in Dairy Beef and Started Calf. He plans to obtain a Criminal Justice degree at Ivy Tech and become a police officer.
Morgan Moore is the son of Greg and Angie Moore and a member of the Howe 4-H Club. He has participated in Started Calf, Poultry, and Goats. He will be attending Purdue University in the fall to study Mechanical Engineering.
Khyleigh North is the daughter of Cheryl and Michael North and a graduate of Prairie Heights High School. She is a member of the South Milford Mighty Mites 4-H Club and has enjoyed her 10 years of 4-H competition both in and out of the show ring. While she competed in the white building with projects such as Foods, Arts and Crafts, Garden, and Microwave Cooking, her favorite memories have been made in the barn. She has a true passion for livestock, especially pigs. The livestock industry and show circuit has created many life-long friendships and she has had the honor of belonging to many worthwhile organizations including Team Purebred, National Junior Swine Association, the Spotted Association, Yorkshire Association, and many others. One of her fondest memories is being part of the TBK show team with her brothers and winning the 2011 Indiana State Fair. She will be attending IPFW this fall and transferring to Purdue University in West Lafayette to double major in Agriculture Sales and Marketing and Agriculture Extension.
Reed Oesch is the son of Mike and Teri Oesch of Shipshewana and a graduate of Westview High School. He is a 10-year 4-H member and part of the Horse and Pony Club. This year he will be showing Dairy Beef, Horses, and Swine.
Lindsey Overholser is the daughter of Dana and Kellee Overholser of Wolcottville and a graduate of Lakeland High School. She is a member of the Wolcottville Can Bees and will be participating in Started Calf.
Carrie Parham is the daughter of Jeff and Theresa Parham of LaGrange and a graduate of Lakeland High School. She is a 10-year member of LaGrange County 4-H and part of the Howe Club. This year she will participate in Photography, Scrapbook, and Sheep.
Cara Perkins is the daughter of Eric and Jane Perkins of Hudson and a graduate of Prairie Heights High School. She is a member of the Stroh Straight Shooters 4-H Club and has taken projects such as Dairy, Started Calf, Sewing, Foods, Scrapbook, and Horse and Pony over the last 10 years. In 2010 she had the opportunity to participate in the Premier Showman contest, representing the dairy barn. Her favorite 4-H memory is having a water fight at the wash rack on the last day of the fair a few years ago. She plans to attend Michigan State University to study in their Dairy Technology program. After graduating from Michigan State, she plans to go back to the family business, Stroh Farm Supply. Along with working at the family business, she plans to stay involved in her church and to keep barrel racing.
Jason Perkins is the son of Rod and Kathy Perkins of LaGrange and a graduate of Prairie Heights High School. He is a 10-year member of the Stroh Straight Shooters. This year he will be showing Dairy and Started Calf.
Marissa Richardson is the daughter of Thomas and Renee Richardson of LaGrange and a graduate of Prairie Heights High School. She a member of the Dog Club and this year will be participating in Dairy Beef, Dog, Draft Horse, Horse/Pony, Junior Leadership, and Started Calf.
Amber Roth is the daughter of Keith and Gayle Roth. This is her 10th year showing hogs and her ninth with started calves. Her 4-H achievements include winning Grand Champion Market Gilt in 2012. She plans to attend Indiana Wesleyan University in the fall, majoring in Elementary Education.
Dylan Schlabach is the son of Bryan Schlabach. He is a member of the Poultry Club and he will be showing poultry this year.
Chloe Sirk is the daughter of Ronald and Elizabeth Hostetler of LaGrange and a graduate of Lakeland High School. She is a member of the Howe Club and will be participating in Started Calf and Swine.
Rachelle Whitaker is the daughter of Gary and Dorothee Whitaker of Pierceton and a graduate of Westview High School. She is a 10-year member of the Horse and Pony Club and will be showing horses this year.
Caitlin Yoder is the daughter of Gary and Dawn Yoder. She has been involved in the Horse and Pony Club and Started Calf all 10 years that she has been in 4-H. She has also shown goats, sheep, and dairy beef. Her favorite club is Horse and Pony. She shows her horse in contesting, jumping, trail, and other various classes. She has earned many different awards showing her animals, including Grand Champion Goat as well as several ribbons and plaques for her other animals. She says there were many memories made over the years in 4-H that won’t be forgotten, and it has also taught her many valuable lessons. In the fall, she will be attending Purdue University for Exploratory Studies.
Kelsey Younce is the daughter of Randy and Becky Younce of LaGrange and a graduate of Prairie Heights High School. She has been in 4-H for 10 years and is a member of the Draft Horse Club. She participates in many projects, including Creative Writing, Dairy, Dairy Beef, Dog, Draft Horse, Goats, Junior Leadership, Public Speaking, Soil & Water Conservation, Started Calf, and Veterinary Science. She has also earned Tops in 4-H.
Allison Young is the daughter of Alan and Jennifer Young of Wolcottville and a member of the Horse and Pony Club. During her 10 years of 4-H, she has taken projects in Arts and Crafts, Foods, Scrapbooking, Sewing, Consumer Clothing, and Woodworking. She has shown swine, beef, started calf, dairy beef, and her horse. Her favorite project has been showing her horse, Comet. After graduation from Prairie Heights High School, she will be attending Purdue University to major in Interior Design.
