Members of the LaGrange County Innkeepers Tax Commission approved the 2012 budget for the LaGrange County Convention and Visitors Bureau (CVB) at a meeting Tuesday.
The 2012 budget of $392,500 is the same as was approved for 2011 and 2010. The 2009 budget was $422,404. Budgets for the CVB are based on the amount of innkeepers tax collected in LaGrange County.
A significant change in the 2012 budget is the absence of health insurance for employees. A sum of $16,000 was budgeted for this expense in 2011 and for 2012 full-time employees will be allowed $4,000 each to purchase insurance on their own.
Another major change is in the advertisement placement category, which shows an increase of $33,000, from $132,000 to $165,000. “We moved $20,000 from grants to advertising in order to be more proactive with events that will promote overnight stays,” said CVB Executive Director Beth Thornburg.
Members of the innkeepers tax commission are David Rinkel, Kevin Lambright, Karen Weiland, Charles Ashcraft and Mike Helmkamp. The terms of both Rinkel and Lambright expire at the end of this year. Both are eligible for reappointment by the county commissioners.
